A personal message to all rally fans

Colin’s web-site has been overwhelmed with fans, well-wishers and those seeking more information.

On Monday evening the site was quite simply overwhelmed as almost half a million people tried to access it and read the Book of Condolences.

We understand that some national news networks have also had to take down their own personal tributes to Colin because demand on their sites threatened to disrupt their own services. This added even more pressure to Colin’s site.

We are quite simply stunned by this reaction, but as a family, we have drawn great strength from your kind words and support from all around the globe.

We are pleased to report that the facility has now been restored under a different format, allowing access to the 2,500 most recent messages

Just as your lives appear to have been touched in some way by Colin, so ours have been touched by your thoughtfulness. It is a very humbling experience and we are truly grateful for all your support and kind words.

The McRae Family

Please note due to the massive amount of traffic the site is currently experiencing this page may run slowly at times. We are doing everything we can to rectify this and we thank you for your patience.

Jack Megaw - 27/09/2007 18:20:50

Remembrance You can shed tears that he is gone, Or you can smile because he has lived. You can close your eyes And pray that he’ll come back, Or you can open your eyes And see all he has left. You heart can be empty Because you can’t see him, Or you can be full of The love you shared. You can turn your back on tomorrow And live yesterday, or you Can be happy for tomorrow Because of yesterday. You can remember him And only that he’s gone, Or you can cherish His memory and let it live on. You can cry and close your mind, Be empty and turn your back, Or you can do what he’d want: Smile, open your eyes, love and go on.

ADIOS COLIN .... DE LOS MEJORES
FEDE - 27/09/2007 17:53:12

What can say that hasn't already been said? Colin simply was outstanding. Images of his battered and bruised Focus WRC being manhandled by him (when to all mechanical accounts, shouldn't have been still moving, let along competing in a WRC event) are legendary. I was lucky enough to meet Colin back in 1998, and he signed a copy of his game personally to me. Its something that I'll treasure forever. Goodbye Colin.
Gaz - 27/09/2007 17:51:34

My deepest condolences to the McRae family. The world is a darker place without Colin
Travis - 27/09/2007 17:33:14

It's always difficult to mourn the loss of someone you know. I grew up watching Colin fly around corners at speeds no one else could fathom. I watched the spectacular crashes on downloaded videos as the U.S. as a whole, had no interest in rally at the time, played his games, followed his career, and tried my best to make it to X-Games. What a shame I missed it. I blew my chance to see the worlds greatest driver perform the worlds most spectacular barrel roll.. the most spectacular piece of footage I have ever seen, and I missed the super fast paced action at this years x-games. I missed the Rally-America events he participated in, and of course I missed the WRC days of old, as I was still a child. But I didn't really miss anything. All I needed to see was a clip here or there to see the heart and passion he put into his every drive. I can only hope to attain that amount of passion in my career. He loved it, and you could tell. I will sorely miss him. I have to add, that when I read the report of the helicopter crash I felt horrible for Colin. I have never seen nor heard of his family before, and as such, it is hard for me to feel the same amount of sympathy. I know it sounds cold, however after loading this site, and seeing Johnny's face, my heart sank. And then it just plummeted. "2001-2007" It's the "2007" that made the feeling sink in. You see this picture of a child with a gleam in his eye, and know that he is gone. I wish there was some way I could help lessen the effect of your loss, as nobody should have to endure the loss of a son, a father, a husband, a hero, but all I can really offer is my moral support, and to let you know that all involved will share a close place in my heart. Neither Johnny nor Colin will be forgotten.
Tim Tucker - 27/09/2007 17:32:35

Colin was my sporting hero, he had a gift to do what I love - drive down a country road fast!! He pushed the boundarys and sometimes crashed but he was always prepared to pay that price. He was a hero becuase he never wanted to play the numbers game, at the start he wanted to finish before everyone else. A true focused sporting hero. May God be with those who mourne their loss

its people like Colin McRae that have made Scotland such a Great and Proud nation. You will never be forgotten.God Bless.
kenny garland - 27/09/2007 16:43:19

In a world full of awful events, we become immune, but not this tragedy. Colin was one of those supremely gifted, skilled and able people that was beyond belief. Such was his statute, I had like us all just expected him to grow old with the rest of us, that's the way we expect it to be with real heroes. From first seeing him at Kielder in 92 in the Legacy he was simply better and faster than the rest (Kankunnen, Auriol, Sainz). Truly incredible. I cannot begin to comprehend the grief and sorrow of all the families, however I you shall all remain in my thoughts always. MC. Dumfries
